About OSCAR Sandwell

Founded as part of a nationwide movement that began in 1975, OSCAR Sandwell was set up  help those  living with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia in the local community. Over the decades, we have grown into a vital organisation that offers a comprehensive range of services, from counselling and education to advocacy and community engagement.

Over the years, OSCAR Sandwell has grown into a cornerstone of the community, providing essential services such as counselling, support, and education.

Pioneers of OSCAR Sandwell

  • Mr. Ronald Beckford (Chairman 1989-2006): A visionary leader who played a pivotal role in establishing OSCAR Sandwell as a trusted and respected organisation, known locally, nationally, and internationally for its contributions to the community.
  • Mrs. Sonia Lindsay: As the Centre Manager for over 20 years, Sonia’s dedication to the cause and her personal connection to Sickle Cell Anaemia drove her to create a supportive and comforting environment for all who sought help. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched.
 
 
Our Mission
